They Can Be Heroes

I don't have enough energy to really go into detail, but a fun time was had by all at the Bob Pollard show in D.C. on Saturday night. Not to get too technical or rock-critic-y, but Bob's new band, led by Tommy Keene, kicks ass. Jon Wurster on drums is simply amazing. And the evening afforded me a very personal/meaningful photo op, seen here, even if some of the night's particulars are a little hazy. (I'm the pale, heavy fanboy on the left, just for clarity's sake.)

I Really Like New York

So the trip to NYC was a success, despite some really nasty weather halfway through. Can't post any photos at the moment, as I don't have access to them at my wonderful job. But we went to a number of touristy places -- Times Square, Staten Island Ferry, Strawberry Fields, etc. -- and did a whole bunch of walking. Thanks to loyal reader JT for all of his tour-guide expertise.

One thing about NYC that I did find disappointing: the food. Of course, two dinners and two lunches is a very small sample size, but none of the meals were in any way outstanding (though the pizza came close). And the service? Fuggedaboudit. Indifferent at best. Regardless, we look forward to returning -- when it's warm.

My reader(s) will remember this post about rarely getting sick. I think I'm experiencing some sort of weird blog karma, because since that time I've had two colds and feel another about to hit.

For No Good Reason

Idly sitting at work, bored, I thought of this list of bad movies I compiled with the help of Jerry and his roommate Mike about 15 years ago. The film pictured here was a particular favorite. So was this one.

I wish I still had the printout of that list. We had hundreds of fine flicks on there.

Start Spreadin' the News

Back in March of last year, I talked about a possible trip to New York. That never materialized, but lo and behold, we're off to NYC next weekend for a whirlwind, uh, weekend. We'll do some touristy things -- Times Square, Central Park, museums, maybe Ground Zero -- but will mostly just explore and hang out with my old friend JT. Photos possible.

The New Pornographers were excellent on New Year's Eve. Had very little to drink, and it was nice to not wake up hungover, a la last time.

By the way, the photo here has nothing to do with anything, but I post it just so my wife will continue to think I'm obsessed with Anchorman.
